Thesis Wordpress Theme – Review
Sorry for the absence, but future posts will make up for it, we promise!
We recently came across a theme for Wordpress called Thesis – If you have thought about using Wordpress or building a website you should start here (unless if you are a developer, who has a ton of time on your hands, then you are on your own). The Thesis theme fills a void that is left between developers and casual Wordpress users who have a basic overview of HTML. On one side you can be a developer and manipulate Wordpress to however you would like and on the other side if you are not, you are limited to the basic look and feels that developers create with their templates. This is the first time that we have seen a theme fall into the middle – if you know basic HTML, you can tweak the attributes of the the theme in minutes to have the theme look and feel the way that you want it to. Thesis is the predecessor to Cutline and we must say blows it and any other Wordpress themes that we have seen out of the water. The secret behind the Thesis theme is the flexibility that is provided by using the OpenHooks plugin (which comes as part of download package).
Here is the Thesis theme homepage (where they offer discounts and coupons on These from time to time) and here is a quick overview that shows off some of its flexibility:
We want your thoughts – so leave some comments!
UPDATE – if you want a more standard template (where you do not have to make tweaks), we recommend Woo Themes.
I have used this before, Thesis is easy to use. As you say, it is a great tool for non-developers (although I think even developers would have fun using it).
Thanks for the article, keep them coming. Welcome back.
Good tool and good article.
Great theme , thanks for the review .
Just checked out Woo Themes so thanks for the heads-up!
The Thesis theme is absolutely stunning in every way, I really haven’t come across a better theme. Thanks for review it.
Great theme , thanks for reviewing .
Thanks for all this info. Do you know the largest amount of pixels that it can handle? I’m guessing 550 or 600 but don’t want to throw the margins out of whack – I’ve been known to do that in the past.
hmmm I’ll be honest for a wordpress them it ain’t that bad, but I always prefer doing my own templates using html and css
I like wordpress themes and features. It’s looks good..
Actually I do like the thesis theme! As of right now, I still think its one of the best themes in wordpress, safely in the top 5 that is.
I agree, it’s still the best there is. But I would like to see them improve some aspects of it.
Till then,
Jean

I have been hearing a lot about how WordPress themes are not very optimized for the search engines, and came across a blog post mentioning that it was the best out there. Anybody have experience using the Thesis Theme for WordPress?
@eye muscle surgery, The thesis theme is definitely a great theme to start with, and actually there is already alot of SEO embeded into many themes by default!
Till then,
Jean
Verdana is a more readable font online. Of course Georgia looks more elegant than Verdana. Thesis also offers a lot many cool fonts to choose from, but they are not web safe.
Rest assured that he will be checking out your gripe list. Everyone who joins the Thesis community gets upgrades for the life of the theme, and Chris is pretty maniacal about addressing user concerns.
This is a great theme and the tutorials available are great as well. The SEO built in options are great too.
I would like to start a free Wordpress blog on the Wordpress site (not my own domain) but I don’t like the themes they provide. Can I use a downloaded theme on there?
Thanks for all the helpful info. I just started my blog and i am still wandering around helplessly but with all these little tidbits i keep picking up i will have this thing licked in no time.
The best two themes: Thesis and Headspace. Both are well optimised for SEO, and are fully configurable for Adsense.thanks..
I have been using studio press themes, and i have had great success with it.
I only have to work with these two files is huge time saver. If you’ve ever tried to work with a theme someone else wrote, you know that working with template files can involve a bit of hunting and pecking.
Congrats, you’ll not regret on your decision to use Thesis. Though, you need to optimize it more for some good looks. Use Thesis Open hook plugin which makes customizing thesis a piece of cake.
Thank you for this simple theme! I think most bloggers out there are your regular Joes who want a straight forward theme.
