What was Your BEST Source of Traffic?

Posted in Traffic Generation at 10:33 am by admin

On June 8, 2006, my site was listed on the popular blog BoingBoing, and I received 31,000 unique visitors in one day, giving me an Alexa rank for that day of 1,000, better than Coke or Playboy! Subsequent days also had very high traffic levels, brining between 4000-7000 uniques per day. BoingBoing found the link to my site because on June 7 my Highest Paying AdSense Keywords page was Dugg.

What was your best source of traffic ever? How did you find it, or how did they find you, how much traffic did you receive initially, and how long did it last?

My two best sources have been 9rules.com and Stumble Upon. Sometimes Stumble spikes, but not that much, a few thousand uniques in a day. But both sites have delivered a constant stream of traffic that I think is more valuable than a spike in hits for a day.

I agree that Stumble Upon is a great source of traffic. I’ve yet to try 9rules.com.

Thanks for your input.

I usually get some traffic from Stumble Upon, but I read somewhere that it is not all “actual” traffic since Stumble Upon caches pages in users browsers and some of those are not actual visits (since they do not hit “stumble” again.

Outside of Google, sites including Digg and Fark are great sources of traffic for us.

Digg has been good for us also. Haven’t tried Fark. So far, I haven’t noticed much, if any, traffic from Stumble Upon.

How do you start getting Stumbleupon to send traffic your way? I have registered my blog with them, but I have never seen any traffic incoming from them.

My software was put on the cover disk of PC Pro in the UK a few years ago. My site went from having 200 uniques a day to 20,000 which lasted for a couple of weeks. From then on it’s stuck around the 1500-2000 mark but I’m always on the look out for that next boost! Other than that I’ve found having a webcam featured on one of the many “webcam of the day” spots on radio station websites works very well.

I have yet to have a best source of traffic. But as the days pass, all the work I have put in should show a winner!

My best source so far has come from Stumble upon. I get some traffic from Reddit and Digg as well. I find, however, that the Stumble upon users don’t click around as much as other users. Anyone else notice this?
