Why are Most Blogs Earning < $20/month?

Posted in General, Blogging for Profit at 12:18 pm by admin

A poll has been collecting votes from visitors to this site for a number of months now, recording their monthly income from blogging. It is not to my surprise that the majority of blogs are making less than $20 per month. From 2,411 votes collected, over 50% of these reported having a monthly income less than 20 dollars. Below are the results of the poll.

If it is your goal to earn an income online from your website, then you’ve got to stop thinking about what you find interesting, and what the masses will find interesting. Traffic = Money. Maybe there’s 50 people out there who care to read about what you did today, but how can you attract 50,000 people to your website in one day? Everybody cares about love, everybody cares about sex, everybody cares about health. Perhaps your next site could be about better living, or the latest gossip in the Paris Hilton prison case. This site, CyberWyre, became a hit because everybody cares about money.

Take some time to find a global topic to write about, and produce original, insightful content and you’ll be surprised how quickly your site will be found. This may sound like I’m stating the obvious, but you’d be shocked just how many “made for AdSense” type websites are out there, with no content, loaded with advertisements, generating no traffic or income.

In the end, it all comes down to time and effort. Many people think that because they hear of all these young people making millions online that it’s easy to do. Anything worth doing takes time, effort, and sacrifice. Keep your head down, work hard and produce something that others find useful, and you will succeed.

A serious effort is always the key to generating higher income. Patience is very important, because such incomes can only be achieved in the longer run by average websites

Any idea on what an average number of ad clicks compared to page visits is?

You can’t value a blog just by the ad-related revenue, the earning can be much complicated than just to see how much the AdSense generates money in your bank account. How about the opportunity value? Many times it;s by blog you get much more thing and much bigger business opportunity… nothing to do with AdSense by the way.

This site is really cool. I’ve read through many of the articles and they are very informative. I too want to break the barrier and earn a regular monthly income, but it is IMPERATIVE that you give the people what they want, and keep your site well-organized, well-maintained and fresh. You’re doing a great service to those who are trying to learn how to make it, and although the majority never will because they don’t have the tenacity, there are others — like me — who are willing to do what it takes, test almost everything and follow the lead from people like yourself. Kinda long comment but I just wanted to show my appreciation. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for your comments! I’m glad that CyberWyre is helpful to some people out there. My tip of the day for you would be to put your URL in your comments, so the next time someone reads what you wrote, they have a link back to your site in the text ‘Comment by cooliojones’.

And for a while I was wondering why in the ‘Top Commentators’ section, my info was blank! :) I think that was my first comment that made it appear like that. Thanks for the tip!

I also wanted to add that I am on track to breaking the

To really make some good money online, I think you’ve got to have more than just one site. Different site topics have different kind of of readers. I think the best way to make money via adsense would be to write about a topic where by the readers are not aware of how adsense works.

This is a good article and should be some inspiration for many new bloggers. My blog has only been online since July of this year and hasn’t earned very much money from ad revenue but has done quite well with some of the affiliate links on it. I also just recently put subcribe to my newsletter section on it and thats been getting me several new subscribers each week.

Hopefully my blog will some day be as successful as this one and some others I’ve seen.
