7 Ways to Double Your Page Views
Most site authors, and statistics packages out there are concerned with number of viewers, and number of page views, however they never really touch on one of the most important statistics: page views per user. How often do your visitors simply come and go, leaving your site as fast as a TV channel surfer? Are you encouraging your visitors to stay for a while and click through multiple pages? If you are able to take your average viewer from 1 page view per visit to two page views per visit, you are effectively doubling your page views. It’s all a numbers game — the more ads you serve up, the more you will earn — and you just doubled your potential.
So how can we increase our page views? Here are a few helpful tips that I have followed myself and you might want to try as well:
1. Use the “More” tag to split your posts
Using this feature will benefit your site in two ways: if you tend to write lengthy posts as I do, it will help to clean up your home page and allow your readers to view more than one article headline at a time. It will also greatly increase your page views by nearly a factor of two. In my log files, I can pinpoint to the exact day that I started using this feature, as my page views per user ratio increased by approximately 80%.
2. Write a Series of Posts
Writing a series of posts, such as the Starting Your Site series I posted earlier, will help to increase your page views as readers have a reason to come back often. New visitors to your site may also be compelled to click through the entire series, increasing your page views per user ratio.
3. Increase User Interactivity on your Site
Encourage your readers to interact with your site more often. This could be through using contests, comments or user polls. If your readers have a reason to come back more frequently, your page views will greatly increase. Find ways to encourage your readers to interact with your site — perhaps pose a question and invite them to answer through comments. Another technique could be to write about a controversial topic, or one which is very prominent in the news at the time. This may stir up some interesting feedback from your visitors.
4. Write Lists!
I cannot stress this item enough. In fact, I am wondering why I didn’t place this as #1 on this list! I owe nearly all of my success online to two lists: The Highest Paying Keywords list and the Advanced Google Tips list. Lists are wonderful because they are easy on the eyes, are often linked to, and are relatively simple to write once you decide your key points.
5. Interlink Your Posts
Every one of your blog posts should have a link to at least one other relating article. By interlinking your posts to other related and interesting articles you will not only be increasing your page views, but you will also be giving your readers more interesting and useful information to read about.
6. Use Excerpts in your RSS Feeds
If your regular RSS readers are able to read your entire article in your RSS feed, then they will have no reason to come to your site to read any more. While it is true that you should always put your readers first, always remember that we are blogging for profit here. If your article excerpt is interesting enough, your readers should not hesitate to click the link to read the rest of your article (and also see a few of your advertisements).
7. Use a Subscription Service
Since I have started offering subscriptions to CyberWyre, I have immediately noticed that my page views have increased. Offering subscriptions to your site is easy to do (click here for a tutorial on it) and will provide a convenient way for your readers to receive regular updates to your site.
If you follow these few tips above, you should be able to increase your page views per user. Remember you don’t necessarily need to increase the number of visitors your site receives, just encourage them to stick around longer!
Great advice here. Have implemented a few of these (1, 5 and 6) on my site and am already reaping the benefits. Nice work.
Thanks for your tips
I think the first tip (Use the “More” tag to split your posts) its the most valuable to make instant additional pageview, but… how much content I may put in every page? Is there any reasonable measure?
Best regards
Increase page views — but annoy the reader.
Having loyal and returning audience is much more important than increasing stats.
good point engtech, i also stands for more user friendly interface and more satisfied visitors rather than doubled impressions (there are no cpm ads anyway)…
engtech: it doesn’t necessarily annoy the reader. The reader may not be interested in every post, and it could save her some scrolling if the posts are summarized.
Hey man,very nice blog!
Can you explain me please how to use th “more” tag?
Also I want to ask you to exchange links.Check my blogs and let me know.
(I will place your link at both of them)

Great tips again, I am trying to implement lists on my site, specifically top 20 or 50 or 100 lists, because I search for those all the time.
Thanks a lot for this helpful tips.
Great info! I have to agree that lists are great if you can create one that is interesting to the reader. I created 10-lies of a dirty salesman and recieved a large amount of hits from Stumble (about 600 per day). Did not do well on digg, but it is still new.
great tips, bro !
