Text Link Ads: The Best Alternative to Google’s AdSense
Many people have the false impression that without AdSense they will have no chance of making an income from their site. There are many reasons why a site won’t do well from AdSense marketing. For one, it might not be allowed in the program, or have been falsely accused of cheating their program, which has become a very common and quite large problem for content publishers.
The page rank of a site is determined predominantly by the quantity, and quality of incoming links a site has. If you want a way to visualize this, think of page rank as a summation of one-headed arrows pointing towards a site; each arrow has a weight, where the weight is the page rank of the linking site. Of course there are other factors involved, such as relevance of the linking site to the linked site, but that aside, this is the basic idea. You can quickly see that calculating the page rank of any given site requires the page rank of every other site linked to it, a problem solved only by those who love graph theory.
So why did we just go through that basic page rank tutorial? Because you can profit from it. If you run a site with a good PR, say page rank of four or higher, a site with a lower rank could benefit by purchasing a link from your site to theirs. When search engines re-index and see this new link, the linked site will gain a slightly higher page rank, and list higher in search results.
Text Link Ads is in my opinion the best solution for content publishers looking to sell links off of their site. Once you sign up (free to join for publishers) and register your URL, advertisers will begin to bid on, and purchase links from your site, which you have control of where they will be placed and how they will look. On the bottom of CyberWyre for example, you can see Text Link Ads which have been purchased on my site.
Depending on your traffic levels (measured by Alexa ratings) and your page rank, your site may earn between $20/link up to $200/link per month. That’s not too bad at all when you have five or six links on the bottom of your site and don’t have to worry about click-throughs. Best of all, you can have paid text links alongside AdSense ads without violating AdSense policy.
Check them out, and happy blogging.
I’ve used backlinks.com before, but before today I had not used text-link-ads.com. So far TLA looks better than backlinks. Here’s a quick summary of the advantages of TLA and the advantages of backlinks.com:
TLA advantages
– they sell the links for you and handle payment
– they do not display any unpaid links on your site
– quicker, cleaner, more customizable install
Backlinks.com advantages
– you get 100% of the sale price of links. However backlinks.com will display one unpaid link on your site, which is their cut.
During the past month, backlinks has not yet been able to sell a single link on my site with a page-rank of 5: http://nosyneighbormap.com/
We’ll see if TLA is able to sell any links on that site or any of my other ones.
This looks like a good service. Now I’ve just got to figure out where I want to put the links.
Just wanted to let everyone know that TLA has been able to sell a link on one of my sites ( http://nosyneighbormap.com/ ). You can see the link at the bottom of my site. The site has a PR of 5, quality traffic, and the link sold for just under $10/month.
again a great article i’m just wondering if you will ever write an article on where you are on your journey of not having to work?
FYI, as with any link purchase, do your research!
Some sites are billed as “premeum site” and will “be revealed at check-out”. The good thing is, they have a screen cap and desc of the site.
I was able to research a site I was about to place a ad on, and low and behold, it’s a worthless scraper site, with BL’s coming from spammed pages, or sites owned by the same guy.
Take a look.

Ema,
Thats a very good point. One tip would be to check the Alexa rating of the site (which TLA displays before a purchase is made). Although the ratings aren’t 100% accurate, generally a site with a rating of 100,000 or less is receiving a good amount of traffic.
I really hope this works, my site is on the verge of being completly dead, with a page rank of 5:
http://www.eugenef.com
I’m now a big fan of TLA. They’ve sold all 8 available ads on one of my sites ( http://nosyneighbormap.com/ ). The site has a PR of 5, quality traffic, and innovative content.

Although having more information never hurts, remember that Alexa ratings are based on the amount and variety of visitors that a site receives. If you’re simply purchasing text links in order to increase your search engine rankings, then the Alexa ratings are not as important as the Google Page Rank.
Andrew,
That’s an excellent point. It all depends what you’re buying the links for..
It sounds very cool
I’ll give it a try
Text Link Ads do sound like an interesting idea that would resonate with users. The idea that sticks, I think, is that TLAs are just as non-abtrusive as Google’s ads, and maybe even less so since Internet users are accustomed to seeing underlined text, and the double underline only serves as a background indicator to our experience that: “hey, this is an ad”.
I’ll check it out.
AdSense banned me a couple of weeks ago and I got so bummed out. I tried to get my AdSense account back, but they said that my reasons still violates the policies of AdSense, so I was unable to get my account back AND I am banned forever. I’ve never been banned from anything before it just made me feel so bad.
I’m so glad that you mentioned about this new service! Now I can go try it out and shut Google AdSense’s mouth. Haha!
Yup I agree with all of you that TLA really a choice. My site also banned from Google Adsense and since then I give a try on TLA and it works!! This month I mange to cover all my online expenses with it. Now my pagerank is still low, only 4, hope to improve it and so my income in TLA,
i dont know if it works for me . i’m in the philippines.

Hi, very informative article! I’ve found it through google’s search request “google text link ads” because i’m really interested in using the both AdSense and TLA services and want to avoid any conflicts with them. So you wrote:
>>Best of all, you can have paid text links alongside AdSense ads without violating AdSense policy.
That’s the most interesting point. 48182&sourceid=aso&subid=ww-ww-et-asui&medium=link”>AdSense policy says: “We do not permit Google ads or search boxes accessing Google search services to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads or services.” first, and then: “We do allow affiliate or limited-text links.”
Am I right: the last sentence is our permission to use TLA together with AdSense? If so, this is cool!
Thanks for the info. Good to know your options in case Adsense ever bans you.. which it sounds like they often do. Thanks again.

Well, ive been accuse by google too.
i’ll try these out too
me try it..and say my url http://www.xnuc.com only $65
I’ve tried both TLA and Backlinks.com – the issue I have with the latter site is that it seems there aren’t a whole lot of quality sites. I’m finding a bunch of low quality stuff like directories and link pages. Not a whole lot of content.
Do your homework and make sure that any page you get a link on is not only on topic to your link but is cached (recently) in G’s index.
Hmm…I’ve applied to TLA but my site ( http://hostwq.net ) is not yet worthy. Gotta do a little more linking and advertising. Hopefully I’ll be able to get in within the next month or so. Until then, Adsense will be my way to go.
Thanks for sharing your comments Matt. I have just started a new service called Panizon (http://www.panizon.com) and I have found your comments useful, as it will help me to improve my own service.
Thanks!
Mike
I’ve been using TLA since its startup. My site (www.emoweb.com.ar) was nicely accepted at that time. Now they’ve got more “difficult”. It’s not very easy to get into their program. I have traffic but not much according to Alexa which I think it sucks because the type of users that visit my website dont use the alexa toolbar, so i don’t get much traffic according to them.
But well, they pay, it works, so i highly recommend it
I’ve used TLA to buy links for my web page http://www.credituniondb.com and google placed me in the sandbox. Now my pr is 0.
Droopal: I had a few questions about your webisite but you failed to list contact infortmation! Can I please have your email address?
I have used backlinks before on http://www.inetbridge.net/ and after a few months it does show up in Google. They did use a free link on the front and to many the free link on your front page is off putting. I tried textinkad as well but they send out to many emails! I need to find a new one now.
this is a good information, good job!

Hi,
I ran across this site for a little info because I’m thinking I want to test out TLA but just making sure there is no conflict with the adsense empire. It seems so far ok but has anyone had any trouble from this actually in fact or are we speculating. Does it affect pr? A lot of work went into my site and the bottom line is we want to make money! Not get into a situation of losing what we have built up as money making strategies. TLA seems like a good bet and together with adsense If there is no conflict could bring in a dollar or 2 x unique and returning visitors.

Has anyone out there heard about WideCircles.com. It seems like a way better service then wasting money on PPC. Apparently they are using refering websites ( forums, blogs, wiki, etc. ) and have a viral word of mouth distributed approach to it. My friend told me he got around 100 visits from single post which cost him $0.40c. I am going to give them a try today . In case you are intrested here is it. http://widecircles.com?s=imt1
I can’t stop thinking about my last vacation in the Caribbean island of Dominican Republic, at charlisangels adult sex vacations with great European and Russian escorts in beautiful front beach villas at an all inclusive packages.
Thanks for sharing and guess what my site http://www.autotick.com with a ranking of 4 is valued at $1,324.00. I wondered if I subscribe to Adword, my ranking will improve thus the estimate will increase?
How does subscribing to Adwords increase your ranking?

http://www.usdocdb.com this site rocks
I am about to start using TLA with my gaming site: http://www.devoted2gaming.com and will post again once I see some progress. My PR is only 1 though so I am not expecting much yet!
I PUMPED MY SITE IS MOVING UP THE RANKS.

Thanks for this great plugin! Works fine – only my old PDA doesn’t understand UTF-8 – most blogs are coded like this – so special characters aren’t displayed correctly.
Their minimum visitor requirements are steep – text link ads are not an option for most web sites. Before you spend the time and form-filling and giving out of personal information and confirming emails and all that jazz, make sure they won’t reject you at the last minute. Happened to me. Unless you get A LOT of visitors, don’t bother.
I have tried TLA and I have not earned anything. Maybe I need my site to be popular again
Another similar program is Etology. I’ve been using this service for a few months now and so far I’m quite happy with the results. I haven’t had a chance to advertise with this system yet, but as a publisher I love the freedom to sell ad space based on my own prices. Check out this review that I wrote for more info.
text link ads are good the quality of sites are a lot better as backlink.com there are nearly no mirrored websites.Backlink.com is a lot cheaper but you have to work away the high proportion of fake or rubbish websites I use both and will continue to use boh
HI, i understand all these link sites promote you on a monthly recurring basis right? mean if dont pay every month the links will dissapear.. or is it a one time payment ??
Has any of you heard of ask2link.com? it works more like text link ads, but I like their interface better. I am giving them a try =)
see if anyone that’s been banned by google adsense would like to try this new alternative aside from TLA.
They have a pretty generous referral program too.
forgot to give the url, check it out right here ask2link.com
I’ve heard that TNX.net is a bit better than TLA. Although I haven’t tried TLA yet as apparently Google have cottoned onto their system and penalise sites that use their links. Just speculation though! Have just startied with TNX
This is great info, i will look into it. thank you!
