Thanks for this great plugin! Works fine - only my old PDA doesn’t understand UTF-8 - most blogs are coded like this - so special characters aren’t displayed correctly.

All good points, but lets not forget about content. I see way to many people that start little sites with a few pages and are expecting high rankings.

At the end of the day there has to be a reason form people to come back to your site. This is how the search engines are trying to model. If thats not there its tough to move forward.

As for google. I have set up sites and within hours google is crawling it without any linkbacks, which means with some luck you may be in the index within a few weeks. But without some good external links and some content you will be at the bottom of the index.

Great article! I have another tip that I used as I have a site Dorfman Pacific Hats that I have been struggling to get into Google.

I submitted a sitemap into Google and it was crawled within 24 hours!

The sitemap must be Google compliant though.

OurCurrentFuture.com,

That is a GREAT, GREAT point... Imagine what would happen if you were to take 15 - 20 minutes a day and jump on 2 - 3 new forums dealing with the subject that you are familiar with and answer a few questions. When you leave your url in the signature, imagine how many backlinks to your site you could have in a few months? Backlinks are one of the major ways that search engines use to crawl your site. The more the links, the more priority that a search engine will make crawling your site.

Another easy tip - one that I'm using right now - is to always put your URL in a comment when you are commenting on a blog post. Assuming that the site is respected and that your comment contains some actual reason for being there, and doesn't get deleted (ie, it isn't a spam link) then it will help your PageRank increase.

Pretty basic stuff (that I've already done a while ago), but it's a good starting point.
